The frequency at which the audio spectrum division happens between speakers in a multi-way speaker system is called the cross over frequency. The choice of cross over frequency is a compromise between the frequency dynamics and power response of the individual speakers and the smoothness of transition between one speaker and another as the audio signal is divided. It is important to have a smooth transition with a flat cross over without loosing the signals at the cross over band. Hence in the design of high end speakers this becomes a very important aspect. |
